It all began with the launch of Apple ipad which took the world by storm. Following Apple hotly, last year the Samsung galaxy tab and Blackberry Playbook has grabbed a few eyeballs. The recently concluded Consumer Electronic Show (CES) in Las Vegas unveiled a range of new tablets. Now Motorola has jumped into the fray with its newest beauty “Xoom”. It won the “Best of Show” award in CES 2011.

The first thing that strikes the eye is it’s large 10.1 inch WXGA (1280×800 pixels;150 pixels/inch),HD (720p) compatible screen. This means that you can watch your favourite movies or play your videos inhd quality. Another important feature is its anodized aluminium body with a soft touch finish which gives it a sleek look. It weighs around 0.73 kg with a size of 9.8×6.6×0.5 inches(HxWxD).

This tab comes with Google’s newest OS for mobile: android 3.0 code-named “honeycomb” which is also a major buzz factor. Specifically optimized for devices with larger screen size, the honeycomb is the newest entrant in the android platform. It introduces a brand new, truly virtual and “holographic” UI design, as well as an elegant, content-focused interaction model

Android 3.0 builds on the things people love most about Android — refined multitasking, rich notifications, Home screen customization, widgets, and more — and transforms them with a vibrant, 3D experience and deeper interactivity, making them familiar but even better than before.

Now coming back to Xoom, the tab has got a 5 MP camera rear camera with 720p HD video recording capability and 2MP front camera for making video calls. Coupled with a dual-LED flash, Xoom holds good for the occasional photohrapher. It has a 32GB of on-board memory, external SD card support and 1GB DDR2 RAM. Motorola Xoom is internally powered by the latest NVIDIA Tegra 2: 1GHz dual-core processor. So good news for gamers on that front!

Furthermore, Xoom is 4g enabled device which is yet to be launched in India. Powered with a 24.5W-hr battery, the Xoom is quite on par with Apple’s ipad with endurance upto approx 9hrs if you are browsing over 3g network and 10 hrs if you are using a Wi-Fi network. For music buffs, the MP3 playback time is 3.3 days approx.

On an ending note it is suffice to say that the competition is getting hotter than ever in the gadget market and we at Tech News have taken the pledge to bring you the latest news about the best gizmos from the world of electronics because if “Gadgets are forever” (for men).Watch out for the next issue…..bye-bye!!
