Samsung Galaxy S5

Samsung’s flagship smartphone model Samsung Galaxy S5 has hit record sales with initial estimates suggesting that it might even surpass its predecessor’s record. The Galaxy S4 had a runaway success in 2013. in 2013, Samsung had claimed that it sold 10 million units of Galaxy S4 smartphone in just one month after the launch, making it the fastest selling Android device. However, it failed to live upto the per-launch expectations as it was widely speculated that the new SG S5 will have curved screen.

The new S5 can be at best termed as S4 Plus rather some game-changer device. The dust and water resistant device has a finger scanner that enhances security of the device as the fingerprints authorise unlocking and locking of handset, access to private content and online payments.Among its much talked about features is a heart rate sensor that measures heart rate. Additionally, it has other fitness tool that tracks fitness progress.

Nokia X, X+ and XL (Dual Sim)

nokia x

After much speculation, Nokia has finally come out with an android loaded smartphone. Although it has been a late-entrant in the Android market, don’t write it off as yet. With its 3-variant product line-up, Nokia is trying to milch the low-budget smartphone market segment. The design and hardware is mostly a rip off from the Lumia stable with some additional features thrown in.

The Nokia X which was launched on 10 March, 2014 in India at a price of Rs. 8,599 for its dual-SIM variant underwent a price-drop on 15 April, 2014 to Rs. 7,729. This might be in response to the imminent launch of Nokia X+ and Nokia XL in a month’s time. Consumers can hope for a further drop in the price after the launch. The Nokia X and Nokia X+ are identical in all respects except the Nokia X+ comes with a 768 MB RAM whereas the Nokia X is packed with 512 MB RAM. People who like to video-call mightn’t be too interested in both this products as the secondary camera has been given a miss. However, the Nokia XL is loaded with a decent 2 MP secondary camera apart from a 5 MP Primary Camera with flash that will bring a smile to all those self-styled smartphone photographers. In addition, the Nokia XL has a larger screen size than its siblings. Although the prices for Nokia X+ and Nokia XL haven’t been announced so far, it can be safely assumed that the Nokia XL will be priced higher than the Nokia X- somewhere around Rs. 10,000-12,000.

The Nokia X is based on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP), and is powered by Microsoft and Nokia services. The highlight of the Nokia X is the highly customised version of Android, with Metro-inspired UI and access to Nokia’s own app store. While there’s no access to Google’s Play Store, users can side-load Android apps from any third-party source. Nokia has used the AOSP version corresponding to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean as the baseline for its operating system.
