Being an editor, it pains my heart to jot down anything related to Unnao incident. This editorial is wholeheartedly dedicated to the innocent girl who cried her heart out and there is no one to listen. This is the incident so far:

It all started back in 4th June 2017 where the 17-year-old girl had been raped by the BJP MLA Kuldeep Sengar and his accomplices, a four-time legislator whose constituency is Bangermau in Uttar Pradesh. Yes, it was him who did this heinous crime. The family went on to lodge an FIR which the police department refused to accept saying Mr. Sengar is a BJP minister and they (the family) should not go against him.

9 months from the incident, April 2018, the victim’s father tried approaching the MLA’s family members where he was beaten up like hell. The victim tried to immolate in front of the UP CM Yogi’s house where the matter got caught into media and the police could not stop themselves more from not reacting. Meanwhile, the victim’s father had been arrested under Arms Act. There in the lockup, the victim’s father died. Following his custodial death, MLA Sengar’s brother Atul and other four were arrested. A special investigation team was formed and was asked to probe the matter of rape and death of her father.

As the matter got highlighted in the media and social media, UP government handed the case to CBI as the National Human Right Commission asked the government for complete details of the case. On 12th April 2018, MLA Sengar was arrested and put into lockup. Since what happened was nothing less than a 90s Bollywood script where the evil powers of the minister tried to finish everyone related to the case including the victim.

The prime witness Younis Khan died mysteriously in his village before the CBI could reach and his body buried without any clue. Then on 27th December 2018, the victim and her mother and uncle were falsely accused and arrested for forgery. During the entire period since her prime witness died under mysterious circumstances, the family got constant life threats from the MLA and was asked to withdraw the case.

A few days back, on 18th July 2019, the victim along with her lawyer, aunt and another relative in a car was returning from Rae Bareilly Jail after meeting her uncle met with a deadly accident. Her aunt and the relative died on the spot and the victim and her lawyer are fighting for their lives in a hospital. The truck that hit the victim’s car had no number plate and was on the wrong side thrashing as speedily as possible. Unnao DG OP Singh still on the MLA’s side citing it was just a road accident on a rainy day.

Justice delayed is justice denied. We want justice for the 17th-year-old minor girl who had faced an unthinkable, ferocious and heinous crime upon her by a man in power. Lawmakers are for the people who get elected by the people and they are no one to abuse their position and torture common man. UP CM Yogi tried his level best to cover all the incidents happened since June 2017 in the time where people of Uttar Pradesh trusted him so much. Even the PM Modi’s leadership and policy ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ got hit my 1000 miles per hour irrevocable stone of people’s anger. Following which, MLA Sengar had been officially expelled from the Party. It took 789 days for BJP to do so. Now the BJP party and Yogi’s power cannot save him anymore. Honorable Supreme Court has asked CBI to do the investigation as early as possible within 45 days while safeguarding the victim and her associates by CRPF. Let’s pray to god for the victim and hope for the best so that the victim gets her justice.
