After much speculation over a low-priced iPhone in the early part of 2013, Apple finally came out with a plastic, coloured version of its flagship iPhone with iPhone 5c last September which marks a departure from the traditional black and white designs. In India, Apple iPhone 5c was available from November 1, starting at Rs. 41,900 and Rs. 53,500 for the 16GB and 32GB models, respectively. Evidently, the price is too high for an emerging market like India, however interested buyers can avail of the buyback scheme under which you can exchange your old smartphone for a minimum of Rs.13,000 or the free-on-a-contract offer by Reliance Communications under which the comany will offer the16GB iPhone 5c at a fee of Rs. 2,599 at zero upfront cost. The 32GB variant of the iPhone 5c would also be offered under the same scheme though consumers will have to shell out upfront charges.

To begin with, Apple has used a single piece of moulded polycarbonate. This means that the iPhone 5C looks incredibly well made with no gaps or joins in the case. Plastic can often feel a bit creaky, but Apple has attached the case to a steel frame inside, which means it feels exceptionally tough and durable. Finally, the company lacquered the outside, which will reduce scratching, although a case is still a good idea.

Moving to this design means that the iPhone 5C is slightly heavier than the iPhone 5, at 132g compared to 112g. It’s fair to say that this minor weight difference isn’t going to make any difference to anyone.

In terms of hardware, the Apple iPhone 5c is almost identical to the previous iPhone 5. packs internals almost identical to the iPhone 5. The Apple iPhone 5c features a 4-inch LED-backlit IPS LCD display with a resolution of 640×1136 pixels and a 326ppi pixel density. It runs iOS 7 and is powered by the Apple A6 chipset, which is also seen on the iPhone 5. The iPhone 5c a bit thicker and heavier than the iPhone 5  due to its hard-coated polycarbonate body. Moreover it sports an 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and also includes a 1.2-megapixel front-facing camera.

Of course, moving to plastic, means that Apple can now work with a wider range of colours, with the iPhone 5C available in white, red, yellow, blue and green. No matter what your preference, there’s a colour out there that will suit you.
